Brake Twin | Laser coating of brake discs

Brake Twin

Laser coating of brake discs – successful tests of the new development. Brake Twin with dual optics and two beam sources, each with 22 kilowatts of laser power.

The of Arnold Ravensburg in collaboration with the company Oerlikon A laser system developed in Wohlen has successfully coated its first workpieces. Large brake discs from trucks were deliberately used to test how the machine performs with heavy and larger components.

One advantage of the double-head machine is that the cycle time is almost halved due to the dual optics; another benefit is the reduced warpage of the discs resulting from the uniform heating on both sides. This, in turn, shortens grinding times. These effects will be verified through measurements in the next series of tests.
